Health News: The patients who suffered from three-degree burns, treating them is really a difficult and horrible task for the caretakers and the mortality rate, in that case, is always 100%. Even a specialized healthcare facility faces struggles to save patients in such cases if 40-50% of the body part is burnt.
The third-degree burns, go deep into the skin and burns the layers of the skin up to the fat below the skin. In such a case, the person will have damaged the nerve endings and they won’t feel pain in the area of the burn. They develop infections, sepsis, hard-to-control Blood Pressure, and dehydration.
And in this case, it is a challenge to save the life of a person who has suffered from three-degree burns. But the advancement of modern technologies, medicines, and surgeries gives hope in the form of skin grafts.
Skin grafts are used to replace the damaged skin and allow the burnt area of patients to heal on its own and recover. The concept of Skin grafts to treat burn patients comes with its own challenge. In the case of three-degree burns, there is hardly any uninjured part left in the body that can be taken out and grafted over the damaged skin. And that case, a temporary skin graft can be sourced from deceased donors, till the time the skin of the burn victim heals.
And in the way to save the lives of these types of patients, Osmania General Hospital launched a skin bank to harvest the skin from deceased donors to revive burn and trauma patients and with the help of this, doctors can use it to spread over patients’ burnt areas. This process maintains the proper fluid levels, controls the blood pressure, and prevents shock and dehydration will allow the burnt area to heal automatically the patient’s own skin will grow and replace the skin graft from the deceased donor.
